When: Fri., Dec. 1, 7 p.m.
The film focuses on the issues of the commercialization of Christmas, materialism, over-consumption, and globalization, as seen through the prism of activist and performance artist "Reverend Billy", and his troupe of activists, a church choir called "The Church of Stop Shopping," that sings anti-shopping and anti-corporate songs. The film follows Rev. Billy and his choir as they take a cross-country trip in the month prior to Christmas 2005, spreading their message against patronizing the retail outlets of several large corporate chains, ending in Disneyland on Christmas Day. It manages to be highly entertaining and uproariously funny, even as it is educational and thought-provoking.
