Retracing the steps of our ancestors through the songs that sustained them — from the dark a cappella ballads and folk songs sung around the house, to the klezmer tunes played at weddings, to songs popular in the Yiddish theater — first in cities like Odessa and Lviv, then in the cabarets and synagogues of Berlin and finally in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. This program makes sure that this tradition remains lebedik — alive and lively!
