Symbiotic Earth: How Lynn Margulis rocked the boat and started a scientific revolution

When: Sun., May 20, 4-6 p.m. 2018

Hudson Valley’s own John Feldman of Hummingbird Films brings us this captivating story of scientific rebel Lynn Margulis who challenged entrenched theories of evolution, to present a new narrative: life evolves through collaboration. A model of female empowerment, Margulis successfully fought the male scientific establishment with her groundbreaking ideas. As a young scientist in the 1960s, she was ridiculed for her theory that symbiosis was a key driver of evolution. She proposed instead that bacteria joined together over the millenia to create the complex cells that formed animals, plants, and all other organisms.
