SRBP Lecture Series: The Southern Pine Beetle

With Rob Cole, NYSDEC Forester. A major forest pest in the South, southern pine beetle (SPB) was first found infesting trees in New York in 2014. The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), along with partners, is actively managing SPB populations on Long Island and surveying for infested trees in the Hudson Valley. Presentation will cover the arrival and expansion of SPB in NY, the strategies DEC is employing to locate and manage populations, and research projects taking place.
