September 2. How about getting a head start on next month—in high style? Here, the modern psychedelic/indie folk troubadour and Soft Boys leader, the one and only Robyn Hitchcock, pays a rare visit to the Woodstock Playhouse for an intimate and idiosyncratic summit of surreal song. And no doubt this particular engagement carries with it a special resonance for the English singer-songwriter: It was in 1970 at this (since rebuilt) venue that the Band recorded Stage Fright, Hitchcock's most beloved album by the town's favorite fivesome and one that he's performed in its entirety on occasion. Which makes it a pretty darn good guess that on this occasion, at least one of the songs from that opus might just find its way into his set. Woodstock. (845) 679-6900. 7pm. $28.
