When: Sat., Sept. 8, 1-2:30 p.m. 2018
Clearwater and other area environmental organizations are hosting a Rise for Climate event, featuring actor Tim Guinee, Climate Reality Project leader, on Climate Change and Hope in the Hudson Valley, followed by an informational forum about plans to build a new, year-round gas-fired power plant on the shores of the Hudson River in Newburgh. Danskammer is an existing 65-year old power plant that only operates to meet peak demand, running less than 5% of the year. The new proposal is for a year-round, baseload plant, which would operate 24 x 7, burning fracked gas far into the future -- adding to global greenhouse gas emissions. Come learn what's at stake for the health and environment of our community, how the public can get involved in the New York State siting process, and what alternatives can promote truly clean energy future.
