Poem: Your Tree

The tree you watered and loved into growing—it grew in your face.
Took hold—
make yourself at home! Smile!
It laughed at me—it cackled, it did.
I hacked away at its roots, plucked, tore, dug into its roots with my nails.
Your face came away.
I prefer you like this.
