Poem: Tropicana

by

comment
she told him she was married and
he had not expected this
he’d imagined the tiny ring a prop
to set the hounds off her trail
to allow her to
move with ease through the
maze of men

he had asked her jokingly if she would
go to Jamaica with him
he’d been flirting with her all week
while she sat close to
him every meeting
even touching his hand once

he was no expert
she saw that
she asked if he still liked her
and he said of course twice quickly
and then
don’t tell your husband about me
don’t tell anyone about me
