Poem: Orpheus

Orpheus

Surely there was a moment when,
Bereft of crown or accolades,
Feet sinking in the wet and slurping soil
Orpheus picked at his lyre and wept.
Surely it crossed his mind to play
A song that cursed the gods
And cursed the fates
for bringing him Eurydice
in the first place.
