Poem: Amherst Dream

I dreamed myself
in Emily’s room—
her walls were white
her curtains—cream.
Her air smelled of baking poems.

I saw myself
at Emily’s tomb—
her small gray stone
in her small gray street.
Sweet Emily—who stopped
before she reached home.
