We'll study observational perspective, which includes the construction of a simple viewing apparatus popularized during the Renaissance by Albrecht Durer. We will study linear perspective, isometric, dimetric, axonometric systems (often used in the pictorial art of the East) and one, two and three-point vanishing point perspective systems (used in the pictorial art of the West). And students will learn atmospheric perspective while working with expanded and compressed tonal relationships to define three-dimensional space. Each perspective system will be shown to have different historical underpinnings and psychological effects on the viewer. Class taught by professonal artists Alex Canelos.
