  • Nina Violet

Boy, it’s been too long since Nina Violet has played in the Hudson Valley. Based on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, the angelic singer-songwriter was a frequent fixture at area clubs and coffeehouses for a couple years until she scaled back her local touring. Thankfully, she’s at last breaking the long dry spell with a gig next month at Market Market cafe.

Violet’s soaring voice is a rare wonder of heartbreaking magnificence, and its owner has appeared on bills with the likes of Radiohead, Willy Mason, Beth Orton, and Elvis Perkins. Versatile on guitar, banjo, viola, mandolin, and keyboards, she infuses New England’s deep Anglo-folk traditions with a street-level indie sensibility. Or maybe it’s the other way around. Whatever. Violet’s a devastating performer and you’d do well to catch her whenever you can.

See what I mean right here:

Nina Violet will play at Market Market in Rosendale, New York, on August 1 at 10pm. For cover amount and more information, call (845) 658-3164 or visit http://www.marketmarketcafe.com/MM.WEBSITE/Market_Market.html.
