The Hudson Valley was named one of the "Best Trips" in National Geographic's "Best of the World 2013" list. The article described the area as "a land of mom-and-pop shops, 'u-pick' wildflower fields, and organic farm stands where 'chain' is a four-letter word."

Blue Hill at Stone Barns of Tarrytown was the publication's pick for a place to eat and The Olde Rhinebeck Inn was called "an ideal base for area day trips." Storm King Art Center, the Clearwater Festival, and Sleepy Hollow Cemetery were all also mentioned in the piece.

Other trip destinations on the list included Canada's Great Bear Rainforest, Grenada, and Uganda.
