Dear Chronogram Reader:
Mars is in Scorpio square Jupiter in Leo -- a refreshing concept if only because both planets are in new signs and telling new stories. We’ve been feeling this energy all week, though the square is exact Friday at 6:46 pm EDT.
I’ve thought about my take on Mars square Jupiter for a full week or more, and have determined a central message: that it's essential to push the edge and to go beyond what you know, to take what other people might perceive as arrogant chances with your creativity. This has become a real gray area in our culture; where is the line between being confident and being cocky?
One question to consider is who is making the distinction: you, as you feel the solid ground beneath your feet and push against it to reach up and out into the world; or others, who are perhaps feeling threatened by and jealous of your belief in your own creativity. Assuming you’re not actually stepping on anyone to get ahead, only the first of those two opinions actually matters.
Scorpio Mars (drive, desire, passion) leaning on Jupiter in Leo (pride in knowledge, thinking one's ideas are great, and more passion) combine into a theme of exceeding one's current capabilities. That always takes some drive or motivation, and this aspect describes just that. But what of people who shrink at the possibility of being bigger?
If that describes you on a typical day, consider this to be an atypical day and take advantage of it. The astrology is ripe to lean toward the cocky side of things when it comes to your creative expression. You find out where the edge is between cocky and confident by being willing to make a few mistakes as you work that edge.
If it feels ‘arrogant’ to you to show your art, go ahead and test that assumption by showing it. Get on that stage and audition; sing at the open mic night; post your poems to your Facebook wall and submit a couple to literary journals. Come out of the corner and do something that’s ‘real’ to you, and see what happens.
What’s the worst that can happen? That you get critiqued and criticized, or told that your ambition overreaches your talent? Guess what: overreaching one’s current talent or skill level is the only way anyone has ever gone beyond it, improved, and found some confidence. Mars in Scorpio square Jupiter in Leo is giving you permission to exceed yourself in whatever it is you most love to do. Now get to it.
w/love,
Eric Francis and Amanda Painter
