Maritime Festival: Classic Boats and Boat Building

The National Boat Building Challenge is an event where teams of two compete to build a boat from scratch in just four hours, and then compete in a rowing race on the Rondout with cash prizes for the team with the best score in all three categories: speed, quality, and rowing race. The Antique and Classic Boat Show will bring people together who have a common interest in historic, antique and classic boats whose objective is preserving and restoring them. There will be a parade of these classic vessels beginning at 12:00 pm. Bring the whole family to enjoy numerous family fun activities at the Maritime Festival. There will be face painting and a fantastic scavenger hunt game to do all day. The Hudson River Fishermen’s Association will be offering fishing lessons for kids while the Mid-Hudson Woodworkers will construct miniature boats with kids. After constructing the wooden boat, kids will decorate their vessels and test their buoyancy. All throughout the day families can also enjoy, creating a key chain, making a signal flag name tag, and decorating a mask or sailor hat. There will also be live music in T.R Gallo Park, hosted by the City of Kingston. The Museum will also offer discounted admission.
