March 3. In her September 2010 review of Beacon-based contemporary chamber group Madera Vox’s debut CD, Chronogram’s Sharon Nichols nails it: “Madera Vox likes a twist, easing you in gradually and then thwacking you over the head with an oddball choice of repertoire.” Indeed, the ensemble has performed tunes by everyone from Thelonious Monk to Nirvana to Upstate composer David Gluck. This date at the beautifully restored Shadowland Theater whets our appetite for the fall release of the outfit’s follow-up disc and its upcoming music-video project with filmmaker Sam Whedon. (John Ford’s classic western Rio Grande, starring John Wayne, screens March 17.) 8pm. $15. Ellenville. (845) 647-5511
