It’s been a while since there’s been regular live music happening in Tivoli (R.I.P., the late, great, Black Swan). So it piqued my ears recently when I heard about the Listening Room, a new music series that launches this Friday at Murray’s Sanctuary cafe.

Curated by Deborah Lopez and Mick Lynch, the series (shows will occur every eight weeks) is modeled on the intimate house-concert format that has become popular for solo artists and small groups. “We hope to bring our community together by sharing what we are so passionate about,” says Lopez. “Music is a huge part of our lives and we have a great network of artists to help build this special series.” First to be featured in the Listening Room will be Irish duo Storyman.

Here’s an earful of Storyman:

The first Listening Room session will be held on May 4 at 8pm. Admission is $10 cover at the door (cash only); adults 21+ only. For more information, call (347) 489-6681 or visit https://facebook.com/musiclisteningroom.
