With all the state and county fairs and outdoor festivals going on, summer is bread-and-butter time for oldies acts and tribute bands. But in between all the well-paying appearances complimented by tractor pulls, funnel cakes, and livestock contests, these same one-time chart-topping artists and their emulators commonly plug the holes in their warm-weather itineraries with dates at mid-sized theaters and small halls. We here at Chronogram thought this week would be the perfect time to round up a few of the classic rock-oriented shows headed to two of the region’s best intimate venues, the Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, New York.

Ridgefield Playhouse | Ridgefield, CT

Former Max’s Kansas City waitress Pat Benatar is legendary for her iconic ’80s hits “Hit Me with Your Best Shot,” “Love Is a Battlefield,” “We Belong,” “Invincible,” “Hell Is for Children,” “Heartbreaker,” and “You Better Run.” On June 23 at 8pm, Benatar and her husband and long-time musical partner, guitarist Neil Giraldo, will visit the Ridgefield Playhouse for a rare evening of acoustic performances. Tickets are $125.

On August 15 at 8pm, summer staples the Beach Boys will return to the Ridgefield Playhouse for a night of sun-filled “Good Vibrations.” Besides that uplifting signature smash, the band, led by sole original member Mike Love, will breeze through such all-time, feel-good surf rock classics as “Fun, Fun, Fun,” “409,” “California Girls,” “Surfin’ USA,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “God Only Knows,” “Kokomo,” and many more. Tickets are $125. Also coming to the Ridgefield Playhouse are Patty Smyth and Scandal (August 4), Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore’s Night (July 28), and Little Feat (July 18). For tickets or more information on all of these shows and more, call (203) 438-5795.

Tarrytown Music Hall | Tarrytown, NY

Tarrytown Music Hall’s schedule is packed with Baby Boomer-baiting brouhaha as well. June 22 brings Rolling Stones tribute act Classic Stones Live (8pm; $28-$36). On July 15, Traffic’s Dave Mason joins with Booker T. & the MG’s guitarist Steve Cropper (7pm; $48-$88) and August 11 brings Eaglemania—“the World’s Greatest Eagles Tribute Band” (8pm; $33-$38). Moody Blues frontman Justin Hayward and guitarist Mike Dawes arrive on August 12 (8pm; $38-$190 VIP); Kansas blows in on August 17 (8pm; $59-$105); and Melissa Etheridge visits on August 26 (8pm; $68-$148).

Edging into the fall, September 15 sees David Bromberg and Tom Rush (8pm; $45-$70) and September 22 has Glenn Hughes for “Classic Deep Purple Live” (8pm; $35-$55). Looking even farther ahead into 2018, MOR giants Air Supply alight on October 27 (8pm; $58-$199); friendly folk faves the Kingston Trio bring the hootenanny on November 9 (8pm; $35-$55); and the Elvis and Orbison Show on November 10 honors the music of the King and the Big O (8pm; $29-$39). For tickets or more information on all of these shows and more, call (877) 840-0457 or buy online.
