With their Jazzstock promotions group, local bassist and composer John Menegon and his wife, vocalist Teri Roiger, have been doing an exemplary job of bringing top jazz talent to the Senate Garage in Kingston. On November 15 Menegon himself will lead a quartet in an evening at the historic venue titled “Sound Embrace.”

“To ‘embrace’ is to believe or accept that which we have affection for,” explains a synopsis of the program on the Jazzstock website. “The music explored within the quartet’s improvisations rely on the enthusiasm of discovery. All compositions are originals composed by John Menegon. These compositions are a catalyst for interaction, a common voice, to realize the importance of respect and truth. It is a journey that leads us to the ‘embrace of sound.’”

Menegon has performed and recorded with such greats as Dewey Redman, David “Fathead” Newman, Pat Metheny, Joe Lovano, Frank Kimbrough, Paul Bley, Jack DeJohnette, Lee Konitz, Kenny Barron, Jimmy Cobb, Nick Brignola, Slide Hampton, Anthony Braxton, and many others. For the Kingston concert, he will be accompanied by Leo Genovese on piano, Chet Doxas on tenor and soprano saxophones, and Lamy Istrefi on drums and percussion.

John Menegon’s “Sound Embrace” will take place at the Senate Garage in Kingston on November 15 at 7pm. Tickets are $26.40.
