Given the popularity of hard cider today, it’s hard to imagine that it wasn't long ago that Angry Orchard was just starting out in the world. In 2015, the company purchased a historic 60-acre apple orchard in Walden that produced both culinary and cider varietals. The Angry Orchard team then set to work transitioning the orchard back to the bittersweet varieties that had long ago made the Hudson Valley a famous cider-making region.
The Orchard has come a long way since then. Today, it’s the creative epicenter of Angry Orchard, where head cider maker Ryan Burk is hard at work introducing new small batch and experimental styles that can only be enjoyed exclusively in Walden.
Its Cider House and one-of-a-kind treehouse (care of Animal Planet’s “Treehouse Masters”) play host to countless visitors each year. In 2017 its small batch Oval Nouveau won International Champion from the Herefordshire Cider Museum and in 2018, the first of the newly planted bittersweet fruit was picked.
On both days, visitors will receive a complimentary tasting glass and sample of the new cider, 5 Years, which will be available for purchase in bottle and on draft. There will also be an apple cider donut vendor and a specialty in-house food menu, and on Sunday, the 70s Project will be cranking out retro tunes.
Reservations are now available for tables at the Cider House and specialty tasting as part of the Angry Orchard anniversary event on May 22 and 23.
