The weekend is here and so is the snow, so let’s get out and take part in the great wintertime activity: sledding. These four parks throughout the Hudson Valley are great for the entire family with a host of wholesome activities that both children and adults can enjoy.
With a beautiful Gilded Age mansion in the background and a lofty view of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains spreading out before you, Staatsburgh State Historic Park in Staatsburg is a grand setting for an afternoon of sledding.
Fahnestock Winter Park in Carmel is an ideal recreation area that rents classic and skate skis, snowshoes, and snow tubes, or bring your own sled for some free fun. Afterward, the onsite Acorn Cafe is a great place to get warm and stock up on hot chocolate after a long day of activities.
Hasbrouck Park in Kingston has not one, but two hills with sledding options. The smaller hill gives way to an open field and a playground, so the kids can build snowmen if they get tired of sledding. The bigger hill is a long, steep ride that will keep the bigger kids excited the entire day.
Finally, one of the Hudson Valley’s best kept secrets, Thomas Bull Memorial Park in Montgomery has everything from hills and trails for sledding and cross-country skiing to a pond for ice skating. The onsite lodge offers a cozy place to dine and drink after a day of wintery exertion.
