Here’s this week’s rundown of hip happenings. Apply liberally and enjoy.

Rhinebeck Crafts Festival

On June 22 and 23, the epic Rhinebeck Crafts Festival returns to the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck. The popular yearly fair features artists and craftspeople from over 20 states exhibiting and selling their unique creations, and includes over 200 jury-selected, modern American makers. Jewelry; apparel and accessories; furniture and home décor pieces; functional and sculptural works in ceramics, glass, metal, wood, and mixed media; fine art painting, printmaking, drawing and photography; kids’ activities; and gourmet specialty foods are all part of the experience.

Empire State Record Fair in Kingston

If it’s vinyl and not crafts that rock your world, then perhaps you’ll want to head to BSP in Kingston on June 22 from 11am to 7pm for the Empire State Record Fair. Featuring upwards of 50 vendors offering records, CDs, DVDs, cassettes, books, vintage clothing, and ephemera, the expo will take place in BSP’s massive Back Room Theater. Handpicked DJs will spin vinyl throughout, and food and bar drinks will be available.

Maritime Festival in Kingston

Attendees can celebrate the maritime heritage of the Hudson Valley and Rondout Creek on June 22 from 10am to 5pm, when the Maritime Festival once again lands at the Hudson River Maritime Museum in Kingston. The beloved festival features the National Boat Building Challenge and the Antique and Classic Boat Show. Throughout the day, the latter component will feature vintage and classic boats, such as a 1956 Chris Craft Sea Skiff, a 1951 Chris Craft Double State Room, and a 1952 Wheeler Sportsfisherman. Also on view will be a host of beautiful hand-built boats and boats currently undergoing restoration.

Pour Tour in Orange County

Beer, wine, and liquor enthusiasts can get their drank on as they tour several of the leading libations makers in Orange County’s historic black dirt region on the second annual Pour Tour event, which takes place June 22. Sponsored by Dirt magazine, the event allows tipplers the opportunity to visit two breweries, two wineries, and two cideries via the magazine’s own Pour Tour Bus. Stops along the route include Westtown Brew Works, Glenmere Brewing Co., Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery, Applewood Winery, Pennings Farm Cidery, and Orange County Distillery.

Jazz Super Group in Marlboro Pianist Marilyn Crispell, drummer Harvey Sorgen, and bassist Joe Fonda are three of the brightest lights on the regional jazz/improvised music scene. In celebration of Dreamstruck, their recently recorded debut, the trio comes to the Falcon in Marlboro on June 23 at 8pm. Crispell is revered for her fine albums as a leader and solo artist on the ECM label, as well as her years with Anthony Braxton and Reggie Workman. Sorgen’s diverse career has seen him work with artists ranging from Hot Tuna to Paul Simon, Bill Frisell, Derek Trucks, Dewey Redman, and others. Fonda has collaborated with Archie Shepp, Makanda Ken McIntyre, Lou Donaldson, and more.
