Farm-to-Table: Cooking Lessons with a CIA Chef | Visual Art | Hudson Valley | Chronogram Magazine

Garden Gables Inn, a historic 17-room property in Lenox (the bucolic Berkshire region of western MA), is proud to welcome Chef Michael Garnero to the Inn on Saturday, April 24th for a one-day interactive cooking demonstration.  Attendees will have hands-on experience working with Chef Garnero from 2:00PM-5:00 PM to help prepare food to be served later that evening. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients, including those from nearby Hilltop Orchards farm, will be used to create delicious hors d’oeuvres and a gourmet four-course dinner.

The Vittori family owns the Garden Gables Inn and also lives and works at their Hilltop Orchards apple orchard and farm winery. The family purchased the 200 acre farm over 20 years ago, saving it from development, with a commitment to preserving its open space and agricultural heritage.  Over the years they have increased the sustainability with the introduction of the Berkshire’s first Farm Winery and introduced low-impact use of the land with hiking and cross country skiing.  Chef Garnero will incorporate some of the wines and fruit into the recipes and a sampling of these award-winning wines will be included with each course.

$150 per person includes hands-on cooking demo with Chef Garnero from 2:00PM-5:00PM plus hors d'oeuvres at 6:30 and a gourmet four course dinner at 7:00PM. The cooking lesson (without the dinner) is $75 per person.   Ask us about affordable rates to stay overnight at the Inn – a full country breakfast is included the next morning!

Participants will receive a monogrammed chef apron and copies of the recipes to take home!  Optional: from 5:00PM – 6:00PM – free private tour and wine tasting of Furnace Brook Winery at Hilltop Orchards with owner John Vittori.

Chef Garnero is currently an Associate Professor at the prestigious CIA in Hyde Park and teaches culinary students as well as weekend courses for novice chefs.

Garden Gables Inn is a member of the Green Hotels Association and Environmental accountability is integral to the values of the owners and innkeepers.  This spring, innkeepers Peggy and John Roethel are planting an herb garden on the Inn’s five-acre property and will combine that with other locally sourced produce to supply the Inn’s kitchen.

Future events include a tree pruning lesson at Hilltop Orchards also on Saturday, April 24 from noon-1:00PM and the 8th Annual Apple Blossom Bash on June 5&6.  At the Garden Gables Inn… watercolor artist Leslie Watkins will be teaching a 4-day watercolor workshop on May 16-20.   Guests will arrive on Sun. night for a wine and cheese reception. Classes are Monday-Thursday with a farewell reception on Thursday evening, departure is on Friday.  Leslie is an acclaimed artist whose clients have included Tiffany & Co., Disney's Animal Kingdom, and Nickelodeon.
