Children’s Holiday Tea

When: Thu., Dec. 28, 12-2 p.m. 2017

While its true that the Victorian era famously birthed the idea that children are to be “seen not heard,” the period also had a lot of rich cultural rituals. One such tradition was social teas, where people would visit one another’s homes for a formal yet familiar tea service and conversation.

The Mount Gulian Historic Site, the former home of the Verplanck family, seeks to recreate the magic of these occasions with their seasonal family teas, which combine “fun, good manners, and education about a bygone era.” This time around, the beautiful Dutch stone house is decked out for the Christmas. Kids will socialize in style at this holiday event, where Harney & Sons teas, scones, and finger sandwiches will be served on fine linens and china. An arts and crafts project will also be offered. Guests are invited to dress their best for the occasion and enjoy a storybook afternoon.

The cost is $17 for children and $22 for adults. Adults must be accompanied by a child.

Price: $22/$17 children
