Woodstock guitarist John Ashton was a founding member of post-punk greats the Psychedelic Furs, and played with the band during its 1980s “Pretty in Pink” heyday. Currently, he’s running a campaign via crowd-funding site PledgeMusic to support the release of the self-titled debut album by his newest project, Satellite Paradiso.
An all-star studio outing of sky-scraping proportions, Satellite Paradiso, in addition to Ashton himself, features such guest players as Sara Lee (Gang of Four/B-52s/Todd Rundgren), Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie/Lenny Kravitz/Tears for Fears), Roger Morris and Duncan Kilburn (Psychedelic Furs), Jonathan Donahue and Anthony Molina (Mercury Rev), Jane Scarpantoni (Lou Reed/Yeah Yeah Yeahs), and Mark Volman (Flo & Eddie/the Turtles/Frank Zappa/T.Rex).
Backers of the project receive premiums that range from an album download ($10) to a private acoustic house concert by the band ($10,000).
