With autumn on the horizon, many of us are taking to our kitchens to whip up cozy treats that pair perfectly with game day or a leisurely stroll among the changing fall foliage. If you’re looking to add cannabis to your cooking this season, here’s an easy recipe that’s sure to delight. These low-THC, cannabis-infused ranch oyster crackers come to us care of Meg Sanders, CEO of Canna Provisions, a Massachusetts dispensary with locations in Lee and Holyoke.

Ranch Oyster Crackers with THC Distillate

Ingredients:

1 8-oz box of oyster crackers (about 224 individual crackers)

1/4 cup coconut oil

1 tablespoon garlic salt

1 teaspoon dried dill weed

1 packet (or 3 tbsps) of powdered ranch seasoning

1 one-gram THC or CBD Distillate or whole-plant full spectrum cannabis tincture

90mg total active cannabinoids equals roughly 2.5mg dose per oyster cracker

First, make sure you have the goods. For 21+ consumers, you can get your cannabis at Canna Provisions in Lee and Holyoke.

Measure 1/4 cup of coconut oil into a large bowl. (Coconut oil works best with the cannabis oil for this recipe.)

To the bowl, add your THC or CBD distillate, or whole-plant full spectrum cannabis tincture, such as Howl’s, made in Massachusetts and carried at Canna Provisions.

Note: Using distillate or lab-tested tincture is a safe way to take an extraction out of the cannabis plant and use it to create this beautiful oil that retains the flavor and effects of its source material. Tincture is easy to deliver using the included measuring dropper. Distillate comes in one-gram syringes, but it’s sticky; run the syringe under hot water to loosen it up.

If you don’t want to use the entire amount of distillate, you can screw the cap back on to preserve the rest.

Blend the distillate or tincture into the coconut oil—if the distillate is not blending, warm the mixture slightly in the microwave, but be sure to keep the temperature of the oil under 200ºF to preserve the cannabinoids.

Once the oil and distillate are blended, add the ranch seasoning, garlic salt, and dill weed.

Stir and whisk until the mixture is uniform with no chunks. It should be thick to coat the crackers, so whisk well!

Once mixed, gently fold in your oyster crackers. Use a big spoon and scrape from the bottom to evenly cover the crackers with the mix.

If you want to really lock in the flavor, spread the coated crackers on a baking sheet one layer at a time. Bake in the oven at 190º F for about 10 minutes to allow the mixture to soak into the crackers, and it’s done!

Reminder: This kind of infusion is not exact science, just kitchen science. So always be careful, hydrate before you consume, and remember to try one and see how you feel for an hour. You can always have another once you’ve given your body time to let the effects set in.

Pro Tip 1: Get a laser thermometer or just be sure to keep the heat under 200 degrees. Higher than that and THC turns into another cannabinoid, CBN, which has sedative effects. Great for sleeping, but not so much for socializing.

Pro Tip 2: Be sure to keep away from pets, as a couple crackers can sometimes pop out of the bowl and fall on the floor!

Pro Tip 3: The broken crackers hold more of the oil, so be careful—those can pack more of a punch!

Pro Tip 4: Oh no! Feel like you’ve eaten enough to have an uncomfortable sensation? Chewing whole peppercorns can reduce the effects of cannabis over-consumption, so keep some on hand just in case.
