“Bootstraps” Pilot Screens in New Paltz

The concept of universal basic income (UBI) has been gaining ground lately in the public policy arena. “Bootstraps,” a forthcoming docuseries on the practice and its impact on American communities, will premiere with a free screening at Mohonk Mountain House on February 6.

“The series tells the story of a 2017 experiment to investigate a proposed solution to economic uncertainty in America,” filmmakers Deia Schlosberg and Conrad Shaw explain. “Over the course of two and half years, a diverse cross-section of US households received an unconditional monthly income of $1,000 per adult and $333 per child. The intimate stories of the 11 households that participated in this groundbreaking basic income trial capture how a guaranteed payment that covers basic living expenses can free people from fear of homelessness and hunger and inspire them to pursue new things.”

Presented by Mohonk Consultations, the pilot episode of “Bootstraps” will screen at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz on February 6 at 8pm. Following the viewing of the hour-long series pilot, Schlosberg and Shaw will lead a discussion and answer questions from the audience. Admission is free via online registration at Eventbrite.
