Antique Shops in the Hudson Valley

It's true what they say: they don't make 'em like they used to. And people have caught on. More and more folks are buying second-hand clothing and vintage furniture every year to get that quality craftsmanship of yesteryear—and also save a buck. Luckily, the Hudson Valley has a ton of antique stores—on Main Streets and major thoroughfares, in strip malls and on tucked-away side roads. And that is not to mention all the yard sale'ing to be had when the weather gets nice.

Here is a list of some of our favorite vintage emporiums. This list is not exhaustive, these are just a few of our favorites!

Luddite Antiques

If you're going for more of a vintage vibe on the illumination front, then you're going to want to head down up to Columbia County. On Main Street you'll find Luddite Antiques, a Brooklyn retail expat specializing in early electric lighting. From Victorian chandeliers to Art Deco sconces to neon bar signs, Luddite illumines every era of history.

Rose Hill Antiques

It's hard to miss the display of trunks, tables, and lawn furniture when you drive past Rose Hill Antiques on the weekend. The selection ranges from primitive to Victorian to Mid-Century. It can get cluttered in there, so it takes a sharp eye to find the gems. Pro-tip: walk through twice to take it all in.


Stuff

Bigger isn't always better. Stuff in Rosendale is a small and tastefully curated storefront by husband-and-wife couple Daniel Goodwin and Monik Geisel. The Main Street shop specializes in affordably priced Mid-Century Danish furniture, oversized art, oddities, rugs, and decor. They opened in Rosendale in December 2017 and on August 1, 2018 they will be moving to Uptown Kingston. Stay tuned for their new address.

Hyde Park Antiques Center

This 9,500-square-foot facility on Route 9 is itself an antique, dating back to the late 1700s and sited behind a scenic pond. The sprawling antiques vendor mall has thousands of authentic antiques, collectables, and vintage decor, making it a destination for antique dealers and amateur collectors alike.

Rhinebeck Antique Emporium

This Route 9 warehouse calls itself the "Hudson Valley’s largest venue of antiques, antique Appraisals and Auctions under one roof" (though we think Zaborksi might be bigger.) In addition to 25 vendor booths peddling a range of European and American antique furniture, artwork, jewelry, and decor, the emporium offers lot auctions, appraisal and packing services, expert repairs for jewelry, rugs, and porcelain, and is open seven days a week.

Annex Antique Center

The Annex is open 362 days a year, so if you ever need a last minute gift, this is the place to go. With over 30 dealers, the Red Hook destination has a range of small and large items from collectibles and coins to furniture.

New Paltz Antique Barn + Antiques on Main

This enormous two-story barn lines one side of the amphitheater at the quaint and bustling Water Street Market. Over two dozen vendors have booths, offering up everything from vintage cast iron muffin tins to refinished shabby chic furniture and vintage clothing. The selection spans from the 1800s to the 1970s, and includes "an especially deep selection of antique glass, pottery, and jewelry as well as a strong kitchen collection." A smaller shop called Antiques on Main, at the begin of the marketplace, shares many of the same vendors. Give yourself a good hour or two to work through both floors and the outpost before heading to Jar'd for glass of well-deserved wine.

Newburgh Vintage Emporium

Boasting more than 50 dealers and over 11,000 square feet of space in a Newburgh warehouse, this antique center takes a while to work through. Find everything from vintage leather jackets and furs to well preserved antique furniture, curiosities, and repurposed items.

Kingston Consignment

This new antique shop is a massive multi-dealer showroom in the former location of Columbia Costumes (which downsized to a small storefront down the street). The two-story interior has been refinished to create a more modern and inviting space, with endless nooks, warrens, side rooms and over a dozen vendors.

Zaborski's Emporium

Zaborski is the holy grail of architectural salvage, lurking on a side street in Midtown Kingston. This old factory building has three floors of every architectural detail, fixture, and furniture you could want from antique radiators to cast iron clawfoot tubs and toilets to dishware to vintage Playboy magazines, and everything in between. There is a whole room dedicated to antique tools. The whole space, though massive and crowded is very well organized. At 40,000 square feet, it's the biggest antique center we know of. Take a buddy and see what you can find, just don't get lost.

Milne Antiques

Milne is a breathtaking industrial building will seafoam green I-beams, retro wavy glass factory windows, and soaring 20-foot ceilings. Test out the Chesterfield sofas, glimpse yourself in an antique mirror, or browse every kind of furniture you could imagine in the 6,000-square foot atelier in Kingston's waterfront district. Rebecca Milne goes to France several times a year to source her inventory, blending current design trends with vintage, industrial, antique and custom furniture. She also offers design services for homeowners, retail businesses, corporations, and wedding planners.

Hoffman's Barn

Following the closure of his family's farm stand, Roger Hoffman built a pole barn that, over the past 20 years, has become an antique destination. The rustic-looking building houses antique furniture, usable kitchen utensils, architectural details, sinks, doors, records, and books.

Woodbull Antiques

Get read to be blown away. Stepping inside this enormous four-story barn outside Cooperstown is like hopping into a storybook. Feast your eyes on the vintage airplanes, chairs, light fixtures, and wagon wheels that hang from the solid beams of the barn. The array of furniture, statuaries, lighting, and curiosities was collected over nearly four decades years by artists Kip and Judith Coburn.

Jenkinstown Antiques

Jenkinstown is a longtime staple of New Paltz, and specializes in Hudson Valley-related antiques, fine art, and accessories both "formal and country." Owner Sanford Levy recently authored a catalog of the paintings at Mohonk Mountain House. Levy's shop is in a charming historic Colonial four miles south of town and is set up like a furnished house. The shop features an ever-changing selection of products, and like all good antiquers Levy is in and out of the shop daily on scouring missions, so call before you head over.

Hudson
It seems that literally all of Warren Street is antique shops. Well almost. At any rate, enough that they have their own club. Vintage furniture is truly the life-blood of Hudson—the industry that sustained the struggling city through a backwash of economic decline and public disinterest until the hipsters and the young Brooklyn families began arriving with their energy, creativity, and verve in the late aughts. There are over 60 antique dealers in Hudson, including Finch, Cottage Treasures, and A Collector's Eye. For lovers of antiquities, it's definitely worth a trip.
