Lila Abu-Lughod will give the Religion Department’s 2017 Frederic C. Wood Lecture, “Framing Islam: ‘Violent Extremism’ and the Rise of Securofeminism,”. Abu-Lughod is the Joseph L. Buttenwieser Professor of Social Science at Columbia University where she teaches anthropology and women's studies. In this lecture she will examine how gender experts and women’s rights advocates have recently been included in the global security enterprise called CVE (Countering Violent Extremism).
