I’m still recovering from last week’s run of awesome shows (Kid Congo/Slim Cessna; Yo La Tengo; Creation Factory/Mystic Braves) at BSP, but I’m sure I’ll be rarin’ to go when yet another one hits the Kingston venue this week: Atlanta-New York-London-based indie quartet Algiers, who will perform on Sunday.

The socio-politically conscious band’s sophomore album, The Underside of Power, was released this past June and was coproduced by Portishead’s Adrian Utley and mixed by studio ace Randall Dunn (Sunn O)))). According to the band, the album’s 12 dark, experimental-but-danceable tracks draw from hip-hop, Italian horror movie soundtracks, gospel, dub reggae, ’80s punk and industrial, and Northern Soul.

Dig this heady concept clip for the new album’s title track:

Algiers will perform with Kyle and the Pity Party and Peter Naddeo at BSP Kingston in Kingston, New York, on September 23 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. For more information, call (845) 481-5158 or visit http://bspkingston.com/.
