A Poem: Advice

by

comment
I was expecting
fanfare, aurora borealis, attar of roses.
It’s always one thing after another,
Mother said.
Things come in threes.

What am I looking for?
Life is not an elegant dinner party,
a holy man once told me.
I got:
laughter, rain, sweet apples.
