A Multidisciplinary Practice

Born in Cuba, Maria Magdlena Campos Pons is a Boston-based artist whose works have focused on history, race, gender, memory, and the formation of identity. Her photography, performance, audiovisual media, and sculpture speak to the fragmented narratives of the oceanic routes of the slave trade, the 18th century Cuban sugar plantations, and story of Latinidad in the United States. Artnet has lauded her as “one of the most influential artists to emerge from Post-Revolutionary Cuba.”
