Seeing the swarms of tourists on nice days and weekends, the bumper-to-bumper parking on Route 9D and on Cold Spring Village streets, and the large groups of hikers blithely marching through the woods as if no-9ne lived here, I think its very healthy to oppose Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail and make them accommodate residents and wild life. In my opinion, while they are by no means monsters, they can be heavy-handed, secretive, and autocratic simply by virtue of being more enamored of their vision than aware of peoples concerns. Fortunately, there has been enough pushback to make them more attentive, but we can never let up on the pressure to make them do it right.
I do know that they are aware of the problems caused by intense over-visitation, and that they are giving thought to solutions. The problems caused by over-visitation cannot be ignored, and local residents have every right to be concerned about it.
