Gates is a cool-school classic jazz singer who’s renowned for his smoky timbre, aerobatic scatting, and instrument-imitating vocalese. A jazz educator in Connecticut, he studied with the great Sarah Vaughn and has released seven albums as a leader, the latest being 2015’s Everything is Cool. Kerhonkson bassist Miller has spent much of the last four decades performing, recording, and touring with such artists as Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Bennett, Ramsey Lewis, George Benson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Lou Donaldson, Clark Terry, Nat Adderly, Larry Coryell, Mark Murphy, Freddy Cole, Slide Hampton, Frank Foster, David Amram, Dakota Staton, and literally too many others to list.
