Hudson Valley Dance Festival 2016

AIDS is known for its devastation on the body. Dance is known as a performative art rooted in the body’s beauty. Both topics combine at this year’s Hudson Valley Dance Festival. Supporting world-renowned acts and activism, the festival returns for its fourth year in Catskill.

The event is produced by and benefits Dancers Responding to AIDS, a Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS program. They are a non-profit fundraising organization with one goal: raising money for individuals affected by AIDS and related illness. The organization has raised more than $285 million since 1988.

Dancing is, of course, the evening’s main entertainment.

Among the acts are the all-male comic ballet troupe Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, performing in drag. Bessie Award-winning tap dancer Caleb Teicher will present an updated excerpt from Bach’s “Goldberg Variations.”Abraham.In.Motion, led by MacArthur Fellowship winner Kyle Abraham, are showcasing an interactive routine featuring subcultures set to premiere in May 2017. Jennifer Muller/The Works will perform from an elemental approach, selecting an excerpt from “Alchemy.” Another all-male contemporary group, MADBOOTS DANCE, will thematically represent love in response to the mass shooting in Orlando at Pulse nightclub in their routine.

There will be two performances at Catskill Point on Saturday, October 8 at 2pm and 5pm. Tickets are available online or by calling (212) 840-0770 ext. 229.
