For the concurrent concerts, performers will play to give voice to the more than five million Americans who have been murdered by a firearm since the University of Texas mass shooting in 1966. The idea for the BSP concert began when musician, Chronogram contributor, and co-producer of the event Robert Burke Warren, AKA Uncle Rock, received a call from his friend, multi-Grammy-winning activist Rosanne Cash, who is helming the New York edition of the concert at the Beacon Theater. “She asked if I would put together a Hudson Valley version,” he says. “So I joined forces with Family of Woodstock and reached out to these amazing musicians. They’re all passionate about the issue. Connor and Minstrel have played with everyone, including Kate and Marshall. And Mike & Ruthy opened for and backed up Kate on her 2015 tour. So expect some impromptu supergroups. It’ll be a rockin’ love fest.”
