Whether you or someone you know has been directly affected by the disease or not, one thing everyone can agree on is this: Cancer is an enemy that we must beat. That reality is spelled out plainly in the name of Cancer Beat, a benefit concert and fundraising auction that takes place on September 17—it’s also a pun on the name of the headlining act, which is none other than 1980s ska revival greats the English Beat.

Spearheaded by neuropsychologist—breast cancer patient—Dr. Rebecca Timlin-Scalera, the event aims to raise awareness and raise funds for research to find a cure for cancer. In addition to being a mother and working doctor, Timlin-Scalera is the founder of the Cancer Couch Foundation and contributes to a blog, the Cancer Couch.

Cancer Beat will feature a “surprise celebrity emcee” and a live auction of guitars signed by Bruce Springsteen, Glenn Frey, and other items, along with the performance by the English Beat, who are seen here at their height in 1980:

Cancer Beat will take place at the Warehouse in Fairfield, Connecticut, on September 17 at 6:30pm. For ticket prices and other information, visit https://thecancercouch.com/.
