I’ve caught Boston’s Club D’Elf several times, and they’ve never failed to blow my mind. Trippy, trance, dub-jazz with exotic Moroccan flavors courtesy of leader and bassist Mike Rivard’s (Morphine) mastery of the three-string North African sintir. The collective is set to trip-no-tize BSP on July 15, and for the occasion they’ll be joined by local keyboardist John Medeski of Medeski, Martin and Wood.

Formed in 1998, Club D’Elf draws from a startlingly wide spectrum of styles, including jazz, Moroccan gnawa, hip hop, psychedelia, electronica, avant-garde, and dub. The band’s special guest players over the years have included Marco Benevento, Billy Martin, Ryan Montbleau, Morphine’s Mark Sandman, Marc Ribot, and others. Their latest studio CD, Electric Moroccoland/So Below, had elicited glowing reviews.
