The J. Geils Band became MTV stars in the early ’80s via “Centerfold” and other slick pop hits, but it was their tough 1970s blues rock that made them gods in their hometown of Boston and put them on the FM radio map. A big part of their success is down to the wired performances of front man Peter Wolf, who will visit the Egg tomorrow night.

Although the J. Geils Band broke up in 1985 and has reunited sporadically since then, Wolf has also enjoyed a busy solo career. His eighth album, A Cure for Loneliness, was released last month.

A highlight of A Cure for Loneliness is a bluegrass version the J. Geils Band’s 1980 smash “Love Stinks,” which Wolf and his band the Midnight Travelers perform here:

Peter Wolf and the Midnight Travelers and special guests Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams will appear at the Egg in Albany, New York, on May 13 at 8pm. Tickets are $39.50 and include a free download of A Cure for Loneliness. For more information, call (518) 473-1845 or visit http://www.theegg.org/.
