Ornette: Made in America depicts a 1983 symphonic concert event in Coleman’s hometown of Fort Worth, Texas, and examines his evolution as an artist over three decades. It was directed by the avant-garde filmmaker Shirley Clarke, one of very few women in the cinema verité/direct cinema scene. Ted Folke, a filmmaker and producer who worked with Coleman, will introduce the program, and, according to the theater, “some surprise guests are expected in person or by Skype at the screenings.”
