That old baby carrier that left your hands free while keeping your infant close? It could help the plight of a Syrian refugee family, possibly savings lives along the way.

New Paltz shop owner Donna Bruschi has started a local effort to collect and donate used baby carriers for Syrian refugees in Greece, where many families begin their long journey on foot to a new life in a new country. Bruschi's initiative is part of the Carry the Future humanitarian effort started by California mom Cristal Munoz-Logothetis; so far, Bruschi has collected more than 16 baby carriers to be sent to a refugee center in Greece.

“It’s natural that New Paltz should help, as our town was founded by Huguenot refugees driven from their homes by religious and political strife," says Bruschi. “This is a great way to extend what we do in our own community to help moms and families half a world away and in dire need."

The Carry the Future campaign began this past September with the goal of sending 100 baby carriers. To date they have sent more than 7,000, all through the efforts of grassroots volunteers.

To donate your used baby carrier, contact Donna Bruschi at New Baby New World, via email at newbabynewworld@yahoo.com, or by calling 845-255-9200.
