Parents these days! All they want to do is help their kids realize every universal hope and dream! But when it comes to the dream of running off to join the circus, can you really blame us?! Who didn’t make their childhood dog jump through a hula hoop and seriously consider the options for setting that hoop on fire? The circus (especially the ones like Cirque du Soleil and Hudson’s own Bindlestiff Family Cirkus which showcase human feats) is awesome! Lucky for your kids (and your band aid supply), they don’t have to stand on their bike’s handlebars in the middle of the cul-de-sac. They can just head over to Hudson and Chatham for Cirkus After School
classes. Kids these days! They’ve got it made!
Starting this week at Chatham’s Morris Memorial and running every Wednesday that the Chatham Central School District is in session, the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus’ co-founder, Stephanie Monseu, will teach your kids ages 8 and up to juggle, walk on stilts, tumble, and make human pyramids. They’ll explore clowning and improve theater and work with circus props like diabolos, rolla bollas, unicycles, and more. An Intro to Aerial Arts class for teens and adults will focus on stretching, conditioning, and building safe strength and technique for exploration on the static trapeze and aerial silks.
Cirkus After School classes in Chatham: Wednesdays, ongoing, starting October 14th with rolling enrollment, at Chatham’s Morris Memorial, 21 Park Row in Chatham; 60-minute classes at 3p for ages 8-12 and 4p for ages 13+; Aerial Arts runs 6-7p for teens and adults; free for all kids in Chatham Central School District.
Kids need to be registered with Morris Memorial’s after school program. This program is made possible by funding from The Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, and from generous private donors.
Beginning in November, Cirkus After School
comes to Hudson with weekly classes for kids ages 8-12. In partnership with the Hudson Opera House and HCSD’s Afterschool Program, the series will work towards a free performance of the kids’ new circus art skills on April 4th, 2016.
