Formed in Paris in 2003 by singing sisters Bianca (“CoCo”; percussion) and Sierra (“Rosie”; guitar, harp) Casady, the highly visual group rose to prominence alongside Devendra Banhart and other purveyors of the so-called freak folk/new weird Americana wave of the early 2000s. In addition to folk and psychedelia, CoCoRosie’s music takes in pop, electronica, hip-hop, opera, and ethnic music elements. Their sixth album, Heartache City, was released on City Slang Records this month.
