Lucky listeners get a look inside when accomplished working sidemen get together to let their guards down and, essentially, play for each other. And along those lines, here’s an enticing Columbia County combo packed with veteran sidemen: pianist extraordinaire John Esposito (Second Sight, Sam Rivers, Pharoah Sanders, others), drummer Peter O'Brien (Edgar Winter, Brother Jack McDuff, Roy Buchannan, otehrs), bassist Terrence Murren (Relations, Doc Marshalls, Eternal Now), and flutist Stu Quimby (not a known sideman, but a toy designer by day, believe it or not). The four will convene on July 3 for a rare one-off gig at the Spotty Dog Books and Ale.
There’s not a lot of info about the program on the venue’s newly revamped website, but it seems reasonably safe to assume this will be a jazz session—with all the requisite revelations and explorations that promises.
Stu Quimby, John Esposito, Peter O'Brien, and Terrence Murren will perform at the Spotty Dog Books and Ale in Hudson, New York, at 8pm. Admission is $5. For more information, call (518) 671-6006 or visit www.thespottydog.com.
