Eat Local NY partnered this spring with the Community Food Pantry of Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown to bring the program to the community as part of Eat Local NY's "Local Food For All Project." The project helps emergency food outlets make fresh, local, and seasonally grown produce available to children and families in need by connecting them to family farmers throughout New York State.
An educational component aims to raise awareness about the benefits of eating local, healthy food, emphasizing the direct relationship between food and wellness. Interactive workshops, chef-led cooking demonstrations, farm visits, and other resources will help to build the knowledge of food pantry clients as well as staff and volunteers.
Eat Local NY has also partnered with the Food Bank for Westchester to distribute farm-fresh produce to more than 110 families through the Green Thumb Program. The community will learn recipes, basic nutrition, culinary skills, and the value of local food and sustainable food systems.
