As the title makes clear, the program features music written by women composers and performed by women musicians. With introductions by composers Joan Tower, Victoria Bond, Paula Kimper, and Karen Lefrak, the evening promises exciting contemporary music along with folder works by Clara Schumann, Fanny Hensel (Mendelssohn’s sister), and Amy Beach. Performing the pieces will be the renowned flutist Eugenia Zukerman, pianist Babette Hierholzer, lyric soprano Kimberly Kahan, and the Kleio Quartet.
“A Celebration of Women in Music” takes place at the Church of the Messiah in Rhinebeck on January 18 at 3pm. Tickets are $25. For more information, visit http://rhinebeckmusic.org/default.html.
