- Creative Music Foundation Directors Karl Berger and Ingird Sertso
Founded in 1971 as the parent organization of the Creative Music Studio, Woodstock’s late internationally recognized center for improvised and world-fusion music, the Creative Music Foundation continues its mission of “[facilitating] the experience and expression of our deep connection with the transforming, liberating, and healing energies of music, a universal language that we all share and is as essential to our humanity as the air we breathe.” CMF recently announced jazz greats Joe Lovano, Henry Threadgill, and Tyshawn Sorey as the guiding artists for the CMS Spring 2014 Workshop, which will take place from June 9-13. The registration deadline for the workshop is May 19.
Joining Lovano, Threadgill, and Sorey at the intensive, four-day workshop will be esteemed fellow Marilyn Crispell, Peter Apfelbaum, Warren Smith, and Judi Silvano, as well as CMS’s co-founders and artistic directors, Karl Berger and Ingrid Sertso. The symposium will explore CMS’s “Music Mind” practice, which focuses on the common elements of all music to inspire awareness, personal expression, intensive listening, and cross-cultural communication.
