Metzner, known as the host of NPR’s “The Pulse of the Planet,” was awarded $4,992 to prepare a sound archive for preservation, focusing on DATs, which are most at risk. Preparation involves organizing, labeling, cataloging, stabilizing and refining an existing database. The collection includes music and ambient sound field recordings from around the world dating back to the 1970s.

The Creative Music Foundation was granted $11,600 for its CMS Archive Project, whose goal is to finalize the restoration of historically and artistically important audiotapes from the Creative Music Studio’s archive of more than 400 recordings of innovative performances by pioneer composers/performers of jazz, world music, and new music. The archive will be housed at the Columbia University Library in New York for research and educational purposes.
