The newly formed Opera Theater of Kingston aims to “present small-scale, high-quality productions and champion the art of chamber opera, promoting accessibility and participation with an open invitation to people of all ages to experience this timeless art.” The company will make its official debut this Friday night with “Liederabend (Evening of Song),” a concert at Kingston’s Uptown Gallery.

For the gala fund-raising event New Zealand-born operatic baritone Kerry Henderson will be joined by soprano Kimberly Kahan and pianist Babette Hierholzer in an intimate and elegant evening of classical song featuring some of the best-known treasures of the romantic era together with vocal rarities by Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner. There will be welcoming remarks by Kingston Mayor Shayne Gallo. Henderson, the executive director and founder of the Kingston Festival of the Arts and co-founder of the Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice, has sung major operatic roles throughout the world, including at the Sydney Opera House, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Italy, and in concert several times at Carnegie Hall.
