The start of spring makes me crave guacamole and margaritas. This is when I think of a nice date night I had at Gaby's Cafe in Rhinebeck last Spring. A friend of mine had posted a photo of the guacamole on Facebook, so I decided to check it out for date night. I'm so happy I did. Gaby's Cafe is kind of tucked away on Montgomery Row in Rhinebeck. I ordered a frozen margarita, which was very potent. They make their own pineapple tequila here.
We started with the guacamole appetizer. They make it table-side here, so you know it's the real fresh deal. We shared a spinach and mushroom quesadilla which was very fresh and not greasy at all. Tom ordered the chicken burrito for his entree, and I had a taco salad. The taco salad was good, but by the time it arrived I was full from the appetizers. You won't find greasy cheesy Mexican food here, so if you are craving that bad stuff, you might be disappointed! (The prices reflect the fine quality of the cuisine too.)
The restaurant was crowded, and there was a large group celebrating a birthday. Yes, they put a big sombrero on the birthday man. Everything is cooked and presented with love. The service was great, especially considering it was our server Nicole's second day on the job. She was awesome! I was a bit confused when she said, "I'm your dessert menu!" but then I realized it was a dessert plate option. We shared the coconut lemon cake. The whole meal was over the top!
Our bill came with two shots of apple tequila on the house. I'm not sure if this is their standard protocol. Tom blurted out that I was a food blogger during dessert. I get weird looks sometimes when I take photos of my food.
